Judge Lantry has spent his career serving the Staten Island community and representing clients in a variety of important legal matters.


Following a resounding win of approximately 75% of the vote, Brendan T. Lantry was elected last year by the people of Staten Island as Judge of the Civil Court of the City of New York. Judge Lantry presides over jury and bench trials, hearings and inquests in the Civil Court, Richmond County. He also resolves motions and oversees settlement conferences in diverse areas of the law, including commercial landlord-tenant, consumer debt, commercial claims and small claims, as well as cases that have been transferred from the Supreme Court, Richmond County. Judge Lantry’s decisions have been published in the New York State Official Reports as well as the New York Law Journal.


In his last role as an attorney in private practice, Judge Lantry focused primarily on civil litigation, including commercial and personal injury litigation, as well as election law matters and commercial and real estate transactions. He previously represented clients in complex medical malpractice actions and provided risk management counsel to hospitals, insurance carriers, and physicians throughout New York City. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked closely with local banks to disburse over $100 million in PPP loans to small businesses in the tri-state area.


Judge Lantry is a former Assistant District Attorney in the Kings County District Attorney’s office, where he successfully tried several Criminal and Supreme Court cases. During that time, Judge Lantry worked with the late District Attorney Charles Hynes, as well as Senator Andrew Lanza and then-Assemblyman Matthew Titone, to make it a felony to assault a prosecutor in the State of New York. He also served as Counsel to former New York City Council Minority Leader Vincent M. Ignizio, Legislative Aide to Senator Andrew Lanza, and District Director to former Congressman Daniel M. Donovan, Jr.


Judge Lantry received a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University – Tobin College of Business and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s University School of Law. He is the Past President of the Staten Island Chapter of the St. John’s University School of Law Alumni Association, and he is a former member of the Advisory Board of the Carl V. Bini Memorial Fund.

While in private practice, Judge Lantry served as the pro-bono counsel to the United Staten Island Veterans Organization, Inc., Catholic Charities of Staten Island, and Angels Circle Charitable Foundation.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Eden II School for Autistic Children, Inc.

A lifelong Staten Islander, Judge Lantry resides in Eltingville with his wife, Jessica.
